Label Artwork

Label Design

Product and packaging label artwork designed to work at small sizes and on-shelf.

Label design has to work at a small physical size while still communicating clearly — ingredients, branding, barcodes and any required information all need to fit without the label feeling cluttered. We design artwork for product labels, packaging labels and stickers of all kinds.

The process usually starts by listing everything that legally or practically needs to appear on the label, since this fixed content often takes up more space than expected and shapes how much room is left for branding. Working within that constraint from the start avoids a design that looks good in isolation but has to be squeezed and compromised once real content is added.

Because labels are viewed up close, small details like font weight and colour contrast matter more than they would on larger print — text that looks fine at a bigger size can become difficult to read once shrunk down to fit a bottle, jar or box. The label’s shape and material also affect the design, since a die-cut or curved label behaves differently to a standard rectangular one.

For printing once artwork is ready, see our labels and stickers page.

Who this is for

Businesses launching or refreshing a product who need label artwork designed to fit real packaging constraints, not just a logo resized to fit.

Why label design is constrained differently

A label often has less room than any other piece of print a business produces, so every element has to earn its place. Designing with the label’s material and application in mind avoids problems once it reaches production.
